Alphatronics Virtual Port Monitor Version 4.0 Copyright 1999-2007 Alphatronics, Inc. All Rights Reserved. Features User Selectable Folder, Filename Extension, Multi-Port and Printer Forwarding, Output to Logfile, Store in User Subdirectory, Executable Filename and Parameters, Environment Variable Job Information, and Drag and Drop Spooling to Printers Folder. Whats New in Version 4.0? A new intelligent installer has been created, enabling the software, in most cases, to be installed without requiring a restart. The user interface has been redesigned to support terminal services via the updated Xcv specification and Soap RPC. It has also been updated to support cluster server configurations. More choices for subfolders and an application wait feature have also been added allowing deletion of the output file upon termination. Installation Notes The unregistered version stops after each print displaying a dialog box describing the output filename until a registration number is purchased. Version 3.x users will need to purchase an upgrade license because 3.x registration codes will not work. Supported Platforms Windows 95, 98, NT/2000 Workstation and Server, XP Home and Professional, 2003 Workstation and Server. Help System Online help is available by clicking the [?] icon in the upper right corner of dialog, then clicking on a control of interest. Naming Conventions Automatically named files are named according to the title of he job included in the document info as seen in the printers queue window, along with a 4 digit decimal number to prevent overwriting of existing files. In the event a filename is not supplied to the print monitor, the day, date, and time are used. Windows NT/2000/XP Notes As of version 3.2d, the security information entered into the dialog will be used during the writing of files, ports, printers, and execution of the post-print application. Administrators should be aware that the post-print application acquires the desktop and workstation of the currently logged on user (if there is one) and may enable access to resources for the user if proper care is not taken to prevent it. For this reason, use of accounts with administrative privledges is not recommended. Environment Variables As of version 3.2d, Virtual Port Monitor will launch the post-print application with a full set of system environment variables and some additional ones with information about the print job. These are: AVPBaseFileName The file name without extension AVPComputer The submitting computer AVPCopies The number of copies in the job AVPDriver The friendly printer name AVPExt The resulting file extension AVPFormID The built-in form ID AVPNotify The user to notify AVPOrientation portrait = 1; landscape = 2 AVPPages The number of pages AVPPaperLength The length of the paper in .10 mm AVPPaperWidth The width of the paper in .10 mm AVPPath The path to the print file AVPPort The name of the port printed to AVPPrinter The printer driver name AVPResolution The resolution of the job AVPTitle The original title of the document AVPUser The submitting user When running a 16 bit application from Windows 9x, the additional environment variables will not be directly inherited due to the way Windows handles them. Additional information can be found at Microsoft in article ID Q152648. Windows NT/2000 is unaffected. Alphatronics offers a solution to the problem with ConRun.exe, which acts as an environment "proxy".
